  • Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS)

    BSTFA is a common derivatization agent that improves the stability and volatility of compounds during GC-MS analysis. It can be used to analyze phenolic acids in fruits, estrogens, and more. 

  • Preparation of pyrimidinone ribosides

    BSTFA is a reactant in the preparation of pyrimidinone ribosides and analogs, which have anti-tumor properties. 

  • Regioselective desulfation

    BSTFA is a reagent for the regioselective desulfation of polysaccharide sulfates. 

  • Trimethylsilyl ethers

    BSTFA is used to prepare trimethylsilyl ethers of alcohols and carbohydrates. 

  • HPLC-electrochemical detection assay
    BSTFA is used in the HPLC-electrochemical detection assay of 8-oxo-deoxyguanosine and 8-oxo-guanine.

It is a colorless liquid that is very sensitive to traces of water or alcohols. where otherwise noted, data are given for materials in their standard state (at 25 °C [77 °F], 100 kPa).N,O-Bis(trimethylsilyl)trifluoroacetamide (BSTFA) is a colorless, organosilicon compound that is used as a derivatization agent in analytical chemistry. BSTFA is moisture sensitive and should be stored in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated place in a tightly closed container. It is incompatible with strong acids and strong oxidizing agents.BSTFA is flammable and can cause severe skin burns and eye damage. It should be stored in a refrigerated environment (0-10°C) under inert gas. Personal protective equipment, such as a dust mask, gloves, and eye shields, should be worn when handling BSTFA.
